The Board of Directors of the Bahamas Primary School Student of the Year
Foundation and the Nassau, Bahamas Pan-Hellenic Council, in conjunction
with the Distinguished Panel of Judges are pleased to announce that a
brave, kind, diligent, adventurous, well-balanced and resilient student, was
selected as the 2020 Bahamas Primary School Student of the Year. Hayley
Wilson, a twelve-year-old student at Summit Academy in New Providence
has been selected for the top honour among the 111 nominees in this
year’s Awards Ceremony. Hayley has maintained Principal List status since
Grade one and maintains an accumulative grade point average of 4.00.
The 2019/2020 Head Girl at Summit Academy is extremely active in the
Chess Club, Early Act, Helping Hands, a Junior Volunteer at her church, St.
Francis Catholic Church and a member of the Lawrence Carroll Dance
Academy. As a humanitarian, she is also a volunteer with REACH -
Resources and Education for Autism and related Challenges and Hands for
Hunger for over 3 years.
She is a member of the 77 th Girl Guide Unit, since she was six years old
and has earned the position of a Sixer. Throughout her years in Brownies,
she achieved over 20 badges and represented the Bahamas Girl Guides
Association at several events to promote the organization.
Hayley has won subject awards in Mathematics, Social Studies, Science,
Information Technology, Language Arts, Spanish and Religious Studies.
She has been a shining star at her school, capturing Student of the Year of
the Week on 7 occasions since Grade 3.

Tracey Johnson, Vice-Principal at Summit Academy noted that “Hayley is
an outstanding role model that sets a fine example in scholarship,
citizenship and leadership. She possesses a remarkable work ethic, a
commitment to achieve success and a spirit of determination that
contributes to her steadfastness and dependability.”
Hayley is the daughter of Michael and Gillian Wilson and becomes the first
student from Summit Academy to capture the Bahamas Primary School
Student of the Year title.
